I took HK SFP9L OR with Aimpoint ACRO C1 to IPSC match - you want believe what happened!

Actually nothing really shocking, but since I baited you here, you can well read and watch match video ;)

Recently I received from Aimpoint T&E sample of their new, pistol oriented ACRO C-1 sight. Thanks to HK distributor in Poland, Cenzin sp. z o.o., I was able to put my hands on optic ready HK SFP9L OR. Aimpoint provided correct mounting adapter plate for HK OR system and I was good to go. And what place better to test, shot of real life use, than competition?

So I took this combo to L1 IPSC match, registered in Production Optics division. As new rules allowed I uses modified trigger I used Lazy Wolf trigger and HKParts match springs set. Some anti skid tape on grip and good to go. In short, this kit is better than shooter. Acquiring dot is easier than on open design sights, however it is possible to loose dot, especially when shooting in non standard position just after magazine change.

I was only shooter in Production Optics on this match, so I won with myself ;) But there was also overall match results, with all divisions together and I had 64% and a change of Open division winner. I'm sure that with more time with this combo (I just had enough time to zero it properly at 20m) and I could do much better!

HK P2000SK and Shield RMSc goes IPSC

I was recently tinkering with my P2000SK to make it a bit more "modern". With help of my local gunsmith (Top Gun in Warsaw) it got slide cut for Glock M.O.S. plates (it was done long before HK presented OR plates and I used adapter plates to be able to test different RDS). Basically changes are:
.
1. Shield RMSc 4MOA plus M.O.S. adapter on loan from RWS Cetus (Shield distributor in Poland)
2. LEM V4.1 trigger
3. HK45C magazine release
4. Talon Grips in rubber black provided by Talon Grips (https://talongungrips.com/pistol-grips/hk/p2000sk.html)
5. Viridian C5L

This was part of my project to make modernized sub-compact carry pistol. One of things to asses is how good it works "on the clock". Shooting drills on training is one thing, but shooting competition puts more pressure. Since IPSC allow now guns wit RDS into Production Optic and Production Optic Light divisions I entered L1 IPSC match with my P2000SK. I used 10 round magazines (rules allow 15 rounds loaded in magazine) and removed laser/light to comply. How it worked out you can see on video below. Some remarks on lessons learned are put in video desctiption. Tell me what you think!

UPDATE: My result was 65% of division winner.

2 new 3Gun matches videos

Here are 2 videos from recent 3Gun matches. First one is Liga Sportera match, shot up to 300m at military range. Second one is 3Gun Nation Club Series rules match shot rather up close with max 50m distance. More info in descriptions for each video.

3 competition videos

I just added 3 videos from competitions in April. 2 are from 3Gun matches and 1 is from IDPA match.

First video is recent Liga Sportera match. It was not my best performance so far. Partially I blame gear (obviously! it is always gear problem!), but I'm afraid I had my own part in this.

IDPA @ Makówka - Round 1

Last Sunday we shot small IDPA match (5 stages, 62 shots) organized by TSK Ba-Bach. This is first round of series of matches aimed on revive IDPA in Poland and convince more shooters to join. Matches schedule can be found at http://www.idpa.com/clubprofile/ba-bach .

I used my HK45C to compete in CDP. I'm trying to learn shooting .45. For now I'm definitely too slow but I feel like slowly gaining confidence. I think Heinie Straight 8 sights are not best for my eye problems. I must try Trijicon HD for faster front sight acquisition.

First 3Gun Liga Sportera match in 2014 - Season Opener

My first match this year and (as shameful as it sounds) almost first opportunity to shoot at all this year (I just managed to verify zero on my rifle and to learn POA/POI relation for B&P Big Game slugs on my shotgun).

Fortunately organizers prepared a bit easier shooting that they could. Mostly because they were afraid that in bad weather we could not shoot all stages due to slow pace. But looks like we have beautiful Spring this Winter (but we had share of snow and low temp as well).

New seasons sees number of changes in Liga Sportera rulebook. Most of them apply to all divisions, but some significant ones apply to shotguns in Open division and makes it more balanced for both magazine fed and tube fed shotguns. It still probably needs some fine-tune but is better (from my point of view at least) that it used to be. But one of general changes (starting condition of firearm) gave me some hard time. Before, firearms that we pick up during course of fire where loaded, chamber empty, slide/bolt closed, hammer down and safety could be in off position. Now safety must be on even with empty chamber (if technically possible). You can easily see that on at least 2 stages (Stage 5 and 3) it took me some time to go, find my brains and let it figure out why the hell my shotgun is not going bang. Hopefully I will learn fast.

On this match I used my 14.5" HK MR223 rifle with Aimpoint MicroT1, 18.5"  Benelli M1 Super 90 shotgun and Glock 17 Gen4 with slide mounted Vortex Razor Red Dot. I also used new HK polymer translucent magazines. So far they work flawless for me and I like them very much. I do also try new way to (not) clean my guns. All were primed with Fireclean gun oil(?). I intend to shoot them some more before I even try to clean them, maybe except few passes of Otis Ripcord in my rifle barrel.

Blaszanka shoot-off championship 2013

Last weekend we had our small shoot-off championship in Blaszanka competition (loosely based on IPSC shoot-off rules). I managed to finish on 4th place (or more properly did not manage to finish 3rd or higher). Here is short video mix from this match made by my friend Obione. Enjoy.

3Gun Liga Sportera, 23rd of June 2013

Again, 3Gun Liga Sportera match. I had some problems on stage 2 and 4, but both I brought upon myself. On stage 2 I used 28g (1oz) reduced recoil slugs, that I know that they barely cycle my Benelli M1. Of course on stage they did not cycle it at all. Luckily only 5 shots required. On stage 4 I had problem with hitting steel with my HK45C - problem is I set sights at home to be more-less straight and did not have time to verify POA/POI. I could take my other handgun with me, but just for fun decided to take HK45C. I also first time used HSGI Battle Belt and G-Code MULE holster platform with RTI system. This setup work nice for me, I just need to get some HSGI Pistol Taco's for it.

My setup this time was 5.56mm wz.96/06 Mini Beryl (aka Mini Radom-Sport) 9.4" SBR with Aimpoint Micro T1, 12 gauge Benelli M1 Super 90 with Vortex Razor Red Dot and .45ACP HK45C.

5th Olsztyn Open IPSC handgun match

Last Saturday, 25th of May, I shot  IPSC handgun match in Olsztyn, Poland. I had quite a pause in shooting IPSC matches, but it went quite good for me. My new V4.1 LEM trigger in P30L works fine. As always with HK, you just drop parts in and good to go - no fitting needed. I have two failures to fire. When I looked on rounds, it is clear that in new batch of Geco, they used new type of primer. It is either much harder or not very reliable. Actually since RWS moved manufacture of this ammo from Swiss to Hungary (ex-MFS plant) seem like quality went significantly down. Time to start loading own ammo, at least for match use.
On this match I used 224 rounds of Geco 124gr FMJ "IPSC Approved" ammo. That means 691 rounds since last cleaning of pistol. 2 failure to fire malfunctions, both of new lot of Geco ammo.

Blaszanka match and P30L pointless test continued

Last Sunday we handgun shootoff match, called "Blaszanka". Name came from traditional first prize, that is bottle of Whisky in tin can made from "blacha". I do not like shooting steel, it somehow intimidate me, anyway I managed to make 3rd place. I was almost 2nd, but "almost is big difference". During this match I used my HK P30L with LEM trigger. I shot 221 rounds of Geco 124gr FMJ and 3 rounds of Barnaul 115gr FMJ steel cased ammo. Barnaul was used to check it on chrono. It barely made Power Factor 125 (125,000 in IDPA) - this is really weak round. Round count since last cleaning and lubing - 467.

Pointless HK P30L endurance test

Recently I received from HK set of factory parts for my P30L. Those parts are V2 LEM trigger with slightly reduced trigger travel. Reset distance remains same. Anyway, installing this parts (drop in without any need of fitting - HK standard) was opportunity to clean up my P30L. Actually field stripping it, made gunk just drop out under own weight. I did not do detailed cleaning, but removed most of what could be removed with soft cloth and paper towels. Put some oil on it and assembled. I decided, that this is opportunity to see how good my P30L works. So from now on I will keep record of rounds fired, add some oil when I feel it really slows down and clean when it starts to malfunction or I got bored (whatever comes first).
Last weekend was opportunity to log 243 rounds on Steel Day organized by Shooting Academy range. Below is video from this match.

3Gun Liga Sportera match - very unlucky for me.

Most unlucky match for me. On 3rd stage shot first I had some problems (user induced) with my quick loader, then RO claimed finger on the trigger during loading shell to shotgun port.I do believe that I did not have finger on the trigger, because with pistol grip stock I'm unable to keep finger on trigger when I hold shotgun by pistol grip only and in right side up position. Actually in other position, with shotgun tilted left side up, I also did not have finger on the trigger, despite RO obviously "fishing" to see that. Anyway it is "word against word" issue, as there are no witnesses who can confirm either statement and in this case RO had last word. I do believe event is just result of over eagerness of young RO. As lesson learned, I will make damn sure it will not happen again, because even if there is 1% chance I'm wrong, I must be sure it will not happen again. Routine is one of biggest enemies of seasoned shooters.

In this match I used FB Radom "Mini Radom Sport" (wz. 96 Mini Beryl) 5.56 rifle with Aimpoint Micro T1, Benelli M1 Super90 12gauge with Insight MRDS and HK P2000SK with Vortex Razor Red Dot and Viridian C5L.

Zeroing Mini Beryl with surprises and 3Gun Shootoff match video

Last Friday I went to the range, to zero my FB Radom wz. 96 Mini Beryl short barrel rifle (9.4" barrel) before 3Gun shootoff match. I set it up with Aimpoint Micro T1. Range was 46m (LRF verified), that means 50.30yard - good zero for most 5.56mm applications. Shooting position on this range is standing behind narrow "counter", so I removed rear support from my shooting rest to be able to rest my rifle somehow. I was going to use up some Spanish surplus ammo that I had. But found it hard to zero my Beryl, as I was getting 5 shot groups in range of 8-10MOA (4-5"@50yrd). Then I found in my range bag one stripper clip with 10 Hornady Steel Match 55gr FMJ ammo, that I usually use in my match HK rifle. So I decided to give it a go. I shot 3 rounds to find where they land on target and.....

2nd 3Gun Liga Sportera Championship of Poland

Sorry for late report, but I spent almost whole week training ITIL, then had family weekend. But here it goes.

At 15th and 16th of September, at shooting range in Podstolice near Września in Poland, took place 2nd 3Gun Liga Sportera Championship of Poland. Competition was held over 8 stages with over 200 shots to make. It is not big competition by US standards, but we are limited with size of available shooting ranges here in Poland. Very limited access to firearms make shooting a niche sport and any form of so called "dynamic" or "practical" shooting even more. But despite this problems sport is developing and we gain more and more shooters on Liga Sportera matches.

Sad IPSC rifle match

Yesterday I was shooting IPSC rifle match in Hodonice, Czech Republic. This match was part of Czech national championship, CNC. It consists one handgun, one shotgun and one rifle match. This rifle match is mostly short to medium range targets, so it is rather fast and dynamic. Only 4 stages (3, 7, 12 and 13) include some longer range shooting and/or smaller targets. I made some mistakes on this match, some stages went good. Especially stage 12 (longest range) went particularly good for me.

So why "sad" match?

3Gun Liga Sportera - Podstolice 18.03.2012

Unlucky match for me. Managed to twist my right knee on stage 1 (second stage I shot) while putting pistol to the box. Fortunately nothing serious - my knee pads helped to keep my knee ligaments together. I finished stage fueled by adrenaline and with support of elastic band and some strong painkillers finished match.
This match was also first opportunity to test Mesa Tactical Urbino stock on my Benelli Supernova. All I can tell, this stock is amazing! Finally I have some sort of control over that thing.

You may want to check LewPrzem's YouTube channel (Click Here!). This guy really knows how to shoot, for now, he is unbeatable around here. He shoots in Tactical class, but even in Open class we do not even come close. Maybe because he trains for our taxes ;)

3Gun Liga Sportera local match at ZKS club

Club level 3Gun Liga Sportera. I decided to take it easy and brought my Mini-Beryl rifle. It is second time ever I use it in competition. Fun shooting it. On stage 2 with evil clays best tactics to win, was dump 5 rounds as fast as possible at them, abandon rifle run with pistol and accept 5 misses (25s penalty). But I was taking it easy and decide to shoot for fun. On stage 3 my RDS decided to go off for some time (it is cheap Delta Optical RDS), but later on it returned. Battery contact I think. Stage 4 is just mu usual lack of skill with shotgun. For so small range with only 2 50m bays available for dynamic shotting and restricted rifle use (can not take rifle forward of firing line per range regulations, it was fun shooting anyway.

21 February 2012

Liga Sportera @ Military Range

First Liga Sportera organized on military reactive targets range. Shooting was fun, however military targets insisted on no recognizing hits, even from 7.62x51. Best was 7.62x39, probably provided higher vibration on targets, but it was lottery anyway. There are two versions on it:

1. Polish Army recognizes widespread use of personal ballistic protection and train to this conditions ;)
2. Target sensors are worn out completely :)

Moving targets at 200m and 300m were responding properly. Also some 200+m targets seemed to register hits best, while closest targets (easiest) needed sometime 5-10 hits, preferably a double tap to react.

BTW I must get myself better camera with wider lenses. It will make easier for my "draftee" cameraman. Should I get Contour camera as well? Please comment.

Liga Sportera, ZKS 5.02.2012

Last Sunday we had Liga Sportera match in ZKS club in Warsaw. Total was 4 stages. Stage 3 and 4 (both pistol+shotgun) were not recorded (I messed them up anyway. Range has only 2 bays certified for dynamic shooting and only one certified for rifle, so this limits size of match. Temperature was about -14C to -18C (7F to 0F).

3Gun match Liga Sportera 2012 - 1st edition

On 22nd of January we had first in 2012 match in Liga Sportera 3Gun. This was also first edition with new set of rules. We have new scoring method, based on time and time penalties, but stages are then reduced to 100% for stage winner, so every stage is equal for match result. We also have new divisions: Classical (only iron sights, no front grips, only manual shotgun, etc.), Tactical (like Classical but non magnifying sights allowed on rifle and shotgun, front grips allowed, etc.) and Open (anything goes, but race holsters forbidden, semi auto shotguns, also box fed, allowed). I was shooting Open with HK MR223 rifle equipped with Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 scope (I like this scope very much - quality piece of equipment), Benelli Supernova shotgun with Docter-clone sight and HK P30L LEM pistol.
Unfortunately 2 stages (2 and 8) were cancelled because not all shooters managed to shoot them before dark. I did not manage to shoot stage 2, but managed to fail miserably on stage 8, so I was not that sad after all.
